What Was Missing From This Week's Right To Life Debate? Every One of My Opponents...

We just celebrated “Sanctity of Life” Sunday. It was the 39th anniversary of the United States Supreme Courts historical Roe v. Wade decision. This decision was the beginning of the modern day multi-billion dollar abortion industry.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, since 1973, when the Roe v. Wade decision was handed down by the highest court in the land, there have been approximately 50 MILLION abortions in the United States. In 2008 alone, the latest year in which statistics are available, there were 1.21 MILLION abortions – which equal 3,322 abortions PER DAY!

Even if you don’t see things from a spiritual standpoint, at least acknowledge that countries that don’t value life don’t generally end well…see also Nazi Germany. To put the number in perspective, the horror of the lives lost in the holocaust was only 1/8 of the number of infants we have terminated in the last 39 years right here in the United States.

50 million people…a generation gone. Many of whom would have gone on to do amazing things. Perhaps cure cancer or run for President. Certainly, the majority would have been working taxpayers paying into Social Security, Medicare and keeping our economy afloat.

As a political party, Democrats applaud Roe v. Wade as one of the greatest accomplishments in legal history. The Democratic Party supports Roe v. Wade and the legal execution of innocent human life. Don’t believe me? Check out their platform for yourself.

The Republican Party believes Roe v. Wade is wrong and should be overturned. They believe in the sanctity of life, and feel that every life should be protected, especially the unborn.

On the 39th anniversary of the horrendous ruling, I am reminded of the 139th Psalm – “For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to Thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

To bring awareness to the tragedy of abortion, the Lubbock Right to Life held a candidate forum last weekend inviting all of the candidates running for State Representative in our area. Out of the four candidates currently running for HD85, I was the only one to show up at the debate. You see it is easy for candidates to talk big about being conservative when they are running for office, but harder for them to face tough questions in a forum. Guess what is even harder than that? To do the right thing once elected. That is why we need courageous conservatives who don’t cower from the challenges of our time…men and women of conviction and action.

I am proud of my stand for the unborn. In this past session I was part of a group of about 12 legislators that worked hard to remove $65 MILLION of your taxpayer dollars from abortion clinics. This has resulted in 11 abortion facilities in the state of Texas closing their doors since September.

Although we had the most pro-life session of any state in history, if we do not continue to elect true conservatives, the other side will try to undo everything we accomplished. If you believe all life is created by God and should be protected – then join me. Together, we will continue this fight to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
