He is a member of the House Republican Caucus Policy Committee, the House Committee on Agriculture and Livestock, the Defense and Veteran's Affairs Committee, is Vice Chairman of the Rural Caucus and was appointed by Speaker Joe Straus to serve on the Energy Council.

He defended States' Rights by standing up to the TSA for excessive pat-downs in Texas airports and fighting the EPA on burdensome regulation that hurts our agriculture, oil and gas industries.
As State Representative, Jim has worked with members from both sides of the isle, including leadership, on issues that are important and beneficial to this district. He has also opposed members from both sides of the isle including leadership, on issues that would have harmed this district. Jim and Cathy have been married for 19 years and are the proud parents of four children: Braden (16), David (15), Kenneth (15) and Lauren Grace (11).
